The exhibition De Fil et de Rencontres by German artist Marion Boehm in Paris.
A first for this artist, who is fascinated by material in all its forms, inspired by the creative energy of the African continent, by her enduring ties with South Africa, where she lived, and also by the sometimes unexpected encounters that have deeply nourished her work.
Through a series of singular portraits, seven of the eleven works are born from an imagined Lebanon, the result of a collaboration with Lebanese photographer Roger Moukarzel.
Woven from art and diverse materials, her work reveals multiple sources of inspiration: moments overflowing with life in the presence of her grandmother, an embroiderer and transmitter of ancestral know-how, as well as decisive encounters in Africa.
Originally from Germany, Marion Boehm explores female portraiture, magnifies human exchange between North and South, and revives the art of weaving and singular collage. Guided by her sensitivity, she creates a series of richly toned portraits that are at once distinctive, captivating and intriguing. Her art is traversed by the vitality of Africa and the strength of women.
Through the harmony of gesture and colour, and the richness of material, Marion Boehm proposes a dialogue between the references of Western art and those emerging from Africa, in a more contemporary register. Her works are driven by the demand for a vision that brings together interculturality and the aesthetics of images in the light of socio-economic themes.

DE FIL ET DE RENCONTRES also bears witness to a contemporary and free Africa. Through her travels, the artist reveals the multiple variations of her lives, while placing herself at the heart of Africa’s cultural effervescence. Marion Boehm sublimates and accentuates the female destinies of the continent, bringing audiences together around encounters woven… from thread and encounter.
